Have you ever had a rough week where it was very stressful for you? Does it seem as if you only feel the weight of the stress at the very end of the week? Yes, I know the feeling. In my job as a teacher, I would go and go but by the time Friday came around, I would begin to feel the effects of the stress from the week. I would look forward to the weekend to really unwind and recharge myself.
Stress is a natural part of our lives and although unavoidable should not be left to build up. Doing so can be very detrimental to our health.
If you are feeling stressed and you know you need to recharge but you are not sure how to get this done. Have no fear as t

1. Pamper yourself.
Nothing is more soothing than a long relaxing, luxurious, hot bath. Take an infused bath filled with fragrant bath crystals or you can use Epson salt. Take the time to savour the scents and get a good soaking. Once you are finished with your soaking, give yourself a good body scrub. This will help you in getting a deep exfoliation. Once your bath is finished, continue with a body massage using a moisturizer or an essential oil blend. This will help the tension to leave your body leaving you relaxed and less stressed.
2. Play music from your playlist.
Get on your headphones and spend some time listening to your favourite music from your playlist. Research has shown that listening to music can improve your mental well-being. Additionally, listening to music reduces the level of the stress hormone cortisol in the body. So pick a spot and take some time to listen to some good music.
3. Read a good book/story
Reading a good book or story, especially one that is fictional will help you to reduce your stress. Reading takes you into another world where you do not have to think about what is going on around you. This means you are distracted from what is going on in your world. Furthermore, reading helps to relax your body by lowering your heart rate and easing the tension in your muscles. Set aside at least half an hour in a comfortable space to immerse yourself in your book. At the end of it, you will definitely feel recharged after your stressful week.
4. Go on a Shopping Spree
Who doesn’t love to go shopping? When you go shopping you are actually doing something that you enjoy. You are going to get the clothes, shoes, and accessories that you love and enjoy. Research has shown that retail therapy as it is officially called can help to reduce stress by lowering blood pressure. During your time shopping, you are most likely not going to think about the stressful week you just had.
5. Go out with your friends
Whether it is going to the movies or dancing, spending some time with your friends will help you to recharge after a stressful week. Going out to a different environment can help you relax and therefore reduces your stress. Moreover, spending time catching up with your friends will help to distract you from the current stresses in your life.
6. Go for a walk

One surefire way to recharge after a stressful week is to go for a walk. Taking a walk outdoors helps to relax the mind. You will become distracted when you absorb the environment around you. Take time to smell the fragrance of the flowers in the air, listen to the birds and other insects in the atmosphere. Walking releases endorphins which can reduce stress hormones. Walking also helps to boost your energy and reduce fatigue. Spend at least half an hour walking to maximize the benefits.
7. Clean a room

After a hectic week, you may not have gotten the time to really concentrate on getting your cleaning done. Now is the time to tackle some of this cleaning. Decluttering your space may seem to be more work but you will be surprised at how much better you feel after taking the time to organize your space. In fact, cleaning will give you a sense of accomplishment which will help to improve your mood.
8. Unplug from social media
Unplugging from social media for a while can help you to recharge after a stressful week. Put the phone on silent and turn off notifications. Better yet, put the phone out of sight. You definitely do not want the stresses from social media to be adding to your already stressful week. The last thing you want to hear is an alert for an email from work or a Facebook notification from a friend that will cause you even more stress. When you unplug from social media you are able to focus more on you. One of the things I practice at the end of each working day is to put down my phone and go outside in my garden for hours before going back to pick up the phone.
9. Take a nap
Not getting enough sleep contributes to stress. In order to recharge you need to get enough sleep. Sleeping helps the body to rejuvenate itself thereby relieving stress. Take some time to get in a nap. You will definitely wake up recharged and re-energized.
10. Engage in Meditation
Engaging in meditation allows you to think about yourself. This means that you are putting all the focus on you for the moment. Get in a comfortable space and spend a few minutes in silence thinking about nothing else but yourself. This will help you to relieve your stress.
11. Work on your hobbies
One way to recharge after a stressful week is to spend time engaged in your hobbies. Doing something you like will help you to take your mind off the happenings of the past week. Additionally, you will be redirecting your energy into creating something that makes you happy. So go ahead, start baking your favourite dish or knit your favourite blanket.
12. Binge-watch your favourite television show
Forget about the past week. Grab your biggest bowl of popcorn, get into your comfy spot all by yourself and binge-watch your favourite television programme. This is one of my favourite things to do and I am currently binge-watching Queen of the South. When you lock yourself away and focus on something else you help to calm your body thereby relieving your stress. You will be recharge after you are done watching your TV show.
13. Do a fun activity with your family
Throughout the week you may not have gotten the opportunity to spend quality time with your family. Getting engaged in a fun activity with your family will help you to unwind and relieve some stress. Try playing some video games or a game of football (Depending on the age of your children) or perhaps go for a walk or to the beach. You will definitely feel recharged after a stressful week while bonding with your family.
14. Exercise

Engage in some exercises. It doesn’t have to be anything heavy. Just like in walking, exercise helps to reduce stress by releasing endorphins which helps to eliminate the stress hormones. If you like you could spend some time at the gym.
15. Have Sex
Yes, you heard right. There are many benefits to be derived from having sex. Sex helps to reduce stress by increasing endorphins and other hormones that improve your mood. Additionally, sex is a form of exercise which helps to calm you down. Engaging in sexual activity will definitely help you to recharge after a stressful week.

I hope that these tips can help you to recharge after a stressful week. You can do all or choose those that you think will be beneficial to you. Have Fun!

You hit every nail on the head, lol. The only other thing I’d add is eating a treat. Typically during the week I eat very well ( healthy options), so after a rough week, I’ll reward myself with something fried or sugary.
I totally approve having a treat as part of the recharging. Thanks for pointing that out Kimberlie.
Self-care is essential in our daily lives because it’s so easy to suffer from burnout! We should never feel guilty about taking time for ourselves. Thanks for sharing your suggestions on recharging!
