5 Ways to revitalize your appearance

1. Skincare

 Skincare is extremely important. The skin is the largest organ in the body and the one that is most exposed. It protects us from various temperatures as well as other toxic and harmful substances.  It is also what people see when they look at us. Additionally, the skin can also give information as to how we are feeling on the inside. Whenever we are stressed, sick or just plain tired it shows on the skin and so the need to take care of the skin. If you want to revitalize your appearance, start by practicing good skincare.

Having good skin plays a vital role in your appearance and how you feel about yourself. Imagine having skin that is smooth and glowing every day. How about being told you look years younger than you actually are? I get told that very often and trust me it evokes a very good feeling from within. I am almost 43 and many persons still do not believe me when I tell them my age.

Here are some important steps to take care of your skin

Even though we are talking about outward appearances, taking care of your skin is twofold, that is, it involves making changes inside and outside of your body.

Stay hydrated

Drinking adequate amounts of water on a daily basis is necessary in order for you to have a fresh, soft and glowing skin. Additionally, drinking water helps to maintain your body’s optimal temperature which keeps your skin moist.  Further, the skin is hydrated which leads to an increase in skin elasticity. When your skin is hydrated, you help to delay the signs of aging which include wrinkles and dark circles.

Get enough sleep

Research has shown that there is a relationship between sleep and skin health. Your body recovers and repairs itself while you are sleeping. A minimum of 7 hours of sleep each night is necessary.  Lack of adequate sleep can lead to increase stress hormones which in turn leads to various conditions of the skin such as acne. Lack of adequate sleep can also increase the aging process as the body is not able to complete its revitalization process.  Some benefits to be had from getting adequate sleep include:

  • Glowing complexion
  • Fewer wrinkles
  • Brighter, less puffy eyes
  • Healthier fuller hair
  • Healthy appearance
  • So go ahead start getting your zzz’s in.

Skincare routine

A good skincare routine can help tremendously with taking care of your skin. Having a routine will ensure that you are giving your skin the attention that it needs. Most people have a skincare routine for morning and another for the evening.  A good skin routine includes three basic steps:

  • Washing
  •   toning
  •   moisturizing

 Select the products that are right for your skin type and then ensure you practice your routine on a regular basis. I will elaborate more on skincare routine in another post.

2. Makeup

Now that you are taking care of your skin it’s time to look at makeup. I know that not every woman wears makeup but it’s all about a new life.  Who knows what doors just wearing a little makeup can open for you? How about just making your ex google his eyes when he sees your new look? It is all about getting out of your comfort zone. First thing, throw out all your old makeup. It is time for something new.

Change your colour palettes. If you are accustomed to a natural look, why not go for a look that is much bolder and vice versa. How about ditching that nude lipstick for a bright red one? Perhaps you were a person that love that bold look, now you can tone it down by adding some neutral colours. The key thing is to revitalize your appearance and at the same time feeling good about your self.

3. Hairstyle

It is often been said that when a woman changes her hairstyle something new is happening or about to happen in her life.  Often time this is true. After my divorce, I changed my hairstyle by returning to my natural roots. I stopped using chemicals and did styles that catered to my natural hair. Nooo. Lol, I am not telling you to do that but I am telling you to get out of your comfort zone. If you have long hair, trying cutting it short, try a bob cut or whatever style you have always admired but never had the courage to get it done.  How about braiding or locking your hair? You can also change the colour as well. Do something out of the ordinary that will revitalize your appearance.

4. Clothing and Shoes

The clothes you wear tell a story about you. If you want to show that you are living your best life now then you have to dress as if you are living your best life now. You are oozing with confidence and so you have to portray that to all who come into contact with you through your appearance. This means that you have to change up your wardrobe. Again venture out of your comfort zone. Go for a look that you always wished you could do but was never able to do it. In addition, pay attention to the shoes that you wear and ensure that they blend perfectly with the outfit that you have selected. Don’t be afraid to make that change.

5. Smile

Smiling helps to revitalize your appearance

A smile is the greatest thing that a woman can wear. I truly believe this and hence the reason most times you see me you will always see a smile on my face. Smiling has been shown to elevate your mood and even the mood of others around you. There are many positive benefits to wearing a smile on your face. These include but are not limited to:

  • Boosting your immune system- when you smile your immune function improves because you are more relaxed.
  • Relieves Stress- Smiling prevents you from looking tired and worn out
  • Make you attractive- people are more drawn to people who smile more than persons who always have an angry look on their faces
  • Makes you look younger- The muscles you use to smile also helps to lift the face making you appear younger.

If you have not been smiling enough, make a conscious effort to smile more every day.

  2. I love changing up my look with makeup and there is something to be said for wearing red lipstick! I know not all women wear makeup and that is great for them, but I LOVE wearing makeup. I will put it on even if I’m staying home all day and when I am feeling extra feisty I’ll go with a red lip. All women can wear red lipstick, they just have to find their red!
